A vision benefit plan is not the same as health insurance. Your health insurance plans usually cover your examinations especially if you have diabetes, high blood pressue, are taking certain medications or have any health issues that can affect your eyes. They also cover you for any eye diseases like red eyes, irritated eyes, allergies, dry eyes, cataracts and glaucoma. Vision benefit plans, on the other hand, are designed to provide very basic routine eye care, prescription eyewear and contact lenses at a reduced cost.
